Spring is finally here; get ready to declutter that wardrobe and tackle fresh new trends! With this in mind, I wanted to talk about building an all important ‘capsule wardrobe’ that reflects your own personal style.
- Start with a simple clear out
I find the best way to organise my wardrobe is to completely empty everything and lay it out on my bed. This really allows me to assess each piece to decide whether I want to keep it, store it or give it away. Its also a good idea to streamline your wardrobe, and group together all your favourite pieces, to see what items you’re really missing and need to purchase.
- Keep it simple
When building a capsule wardrobe it’s important to ensure you have really versatile pieces that you absolutely love to wear. For example, a simple white blouse or a black leather biker jacket, are classic wardrobe essentials that can be dressed up and down with ease. Neutral hues are also something to consider as these are really versatile colours that will easily pair with anything and won’t go out of style. This is also where you can invest in better quality garments that will see you through the years. I recently invested in this white roll neck jumper from Reiss; its cut, colour and material ticks all the right boxes and will definitely go the distance in my wardrobe.
- Know your own style
Clothes that don’t flatter your body shape are taking up space that can be used for something you really enjoy wearing. When you find something that suits you, stock up! If you have a wardrobe filled with clothes that truly represents you, you’ll feel amazing and soon the days of ‘not having anything to wear’ will become less often. You’ll also be thankful when you’ve hit the ‘snooze’ button, one too many times, and need to find an outfit quickly!
